About the photographer

Here's a little something about me so you can know what I've done and where I'm going. I was born in Montréal, Québec, Canada in the 70s and I'm the founding member of the goth/prog band Howling Syn. So art is a passion of mine. 4 years ago, I started to shoot live bands on my own and since 2006 I had the chance to get involved with MetalUniverse... read more >>

“It’s about the music, not the hair” !

All rock bands fans who follow the development and evolution of their favorite singers and performers are addicted to details regarding the songs, concerts and even private life of their idols.

True fans know when a member of a rock band gets married, if their idol gets sick of if the band will perform a concert in the near future. But someone who follows a band for several years is able to tell how this rock band has evolved, how their music has changed and if the image of the band is the same or different from how it was at launch.

Since the emblem of many rock bands members is their long hair, one of the most surprising changes of these singers and performers is losing hair and even shaving their heads. Many of these drummers, singers and guitarists shaved their heads when they noticed they their hair was falling. Some of them remained completely bald, while others let their hair grow back. Vivian Campbell of Def Leppard, Ozzy Osbourne, Joe Satriani, Joey Allen of Warrant, Phil Anselmo of Pantera, Tommy Lee of Motley Crue, Rob Halford of Judas Priest and Bret Michaels of Poison are only some of the rock bands members that shaved their heads.

Hair loss or alopecia is a condition that may affect anyone, not just guitarists, drummers and singers. Many men and even women are affected by hair loss at some point due to various causes and in certain circumstances. As mentioned on WebMD, hair loss can occur because of genes, stress, diseases, injuries, medicines, aging and even hair care practices.

The most common cause of hair loss that affects people is male/female pattern baldness. It is an inherited hair loss, meaning that genes affect the lifespan of hair strands. In males, this type of hair loss manifests as a receding hairline, bald spots appear on forehead and on top of the head, while females experience a general thinning of their crowns.

Provillus has been developed by scientists committed to assist men and women affected by hair loss. It contains natural ingredients that get to the root of the problem, stop the hair fall and prevent loss of hair as well. Provillus.org nourishes the scalp, helps rebuilding the follicles damaged and stimulates the regrowth of healthy hair.

Why would anyone decide to shave their heads when there are natural solutions like Provillus, this effective hair growth treatment? It may be true that “It’s about the music, not the hair”, as Joe Satriani said once, but experiencing a receding hairline, losing hair and being forced to give up to long and beautiful hair can affect anyone’s self-esteem, not just the image and self-regard of rock bands members.

It is a little sad that many singers, drummers and guitarists of rock bands wear hats, baseball hats, bandannas and even wigs because of hair loss. Instead of hiding the problem, why wouldn’t they try to solve it?

It's been a long time since I wrote on this blog. I now have a section for journalistic photos (in the events section) that reflects quite well my new job as a photographer for a press agency. I am a lot busier than I used to be, so the updates will be a little less frequent, but I will do my best to keep this website well alive.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year 2009!
